See Ya Later Red Sectional

Or not. Yes, not later would be great.

So.. we said sayonara to our hugantic (that’s a little huge and a little gigantic, duh) red sectional. Did I mention that it was red. Never again. Ya know, we try our best around here not to make costly mistakes but sometimes you just have to learn by personal experience. But seriously, please take my advice on this one. If you ever plan to stray from your original color scheme that currently incorporates a red sofa, save yourself the time and money and just don’t go there. Or any strikingly bold color for that matter. I am a true believer in using color with accessories anyway. I don’t know what we were thinking. A little too brave that afternoon apparently.

On the bright side, the sofa was showing some signs of wear after a few years and we would have been looking in the near future regardless… or so I tell myself… and the hubs. And the best part? We slapped her right up on craigslist and sold her three days later for 800 buckaroos. What’s the best part about that? Well, with $800 to throw down on a new sofa we only had to dish out $48 for a new one. Yea, you heard me. 48. And I’m totally psyched to share our new babes with you guys. That is, when we actually get it. Now for a little bit of a downer.

We had our eyes set on this puppy.

Clean lines, simple, modern, with a bit of bulk and extra sturdiness for future bambinos. And the color.. to die for. Dark gray, perfect for a combination of spills and pet hair. Love. Not to mention easily removable covers for quick clean-up. Music to my ears. Oh, and the price. Can I get an $848? Yea, we’ll take that. Ikea, how we love you. But wait, wasn’t there a downer? So, we take a little trip to our local Ikea, not in stock. Ok, when can we get it? We don’t place furniture orders unless we have the furniture in stock. Ok, when will you have it. We don’t have any record of future deliveries. Can you notify us when you get it? No. So… we just have to keep checking back day after day? Yes.

Lets not go into how completely frustrating that conversation was. Did I say I loved you Ikea? Correction. After calling Ikea’s help line I later learned that literally each and every store was out of the dark gray covers. So, no help there. We finally got someone to spill the beans. For some unknown reason he had the sneaking suspicion that more covers would be delivered in late March. Hmmm. I will be stalking Ikea’s website until then checking for updates. You’re welcome to join me :)

Until then… we purchased the frame and a temporary cover in the least expensive and neutral color we could get our hands on. It looks a little like this.

One positive, we are one step closer to our finished living room remodel. No real pictures of the sofa because I’m not that pumped. Plain and simple. But hey, temporarily it’s neutral color is perfect.. especially for a house going up on the market.

Wait, what???

Opps ;) More details soon!!

Someone Kick Me

Yes, I know that phrase is “someone pinch me” but this news calls for kick.

Zoey’s nursery is featured on Chic & Cheap Nursery today! I’m totally spazzing out over here. Not to mention so incredibly honored to be presented alongside some of the most adorable nurseries around. Sigh… :)

Head on over and check it out!

A Little Less Harry…

… and a lot more Happy.

Yep, we can officially wave good-bye to ole “harry”, a little DIY artwork project I bombed whipped up last week. He had to go. Plain and simple. And with his new version comes a few of our favorite photos. We’re loving the look of our new dining art wall.

We switched up the font in the “you make me happy when skies are gray” print to something a little more delicate. Originally I was really digging the bolder fonts until we tried out a little sample of this new one on our wedding date frame. It reads a little more light-hearted and fun, which is exactly the feel we’re going for. And since we’re trying to work a few new colors into our home, we threw in some dark teal and olive into the mix as well.

We debated back and forth between black and white photos versus color for the longest time. Finally, after way too much of my indecision hubster declared he no longer gave a crap we settled on the idea that we prefer black and white photos when doing a large gallery and color for smaller groups. But don’t hold me to that. You know we’re fickle around here. We went with simple white frames and white matting (Ikea’s Ribba frames) to really maximize the emphasis on the actual photos.

We also had some totally awesome maternity shots done that have some serious yellow accents in them. We’re thinking our master revamp is going to be absolute perfect place to show these off. Can’t wait to get started on that!

Psst – Locals can check out this post for details on our oh-so-awesome photographer.

Master Bedroom Revamp

Before I even begin this post, just know that I already have my head in the corner for neglecting you guys all week. I know, shame, shame. You can give me a virtual smack on the hand if it helps. All joking aside though, we have been completely swamped over here at the Rettinger house (more on that later). Yea, yea. Excuses. But… in efforts to make amends, I have a little show and tell ready for you that I promised last week.

We renovated our master bedroom around the same time as the bath and I haven’t really been all the excited to share it. Possibly because it stands the same as it did after completion around 2 years ago. Yep. We’ve been so busy with other rooms around the house that the this one just got left behind. That is until a few days ago when I spotted this awesome sheet set over at West Elm. Gotta love ya some stripes.

Originally I had wanted a solid white and gray bedding concept with small pops of mustard yellow. This was great… for about a month. Then I realized I was being ultra boring. These stripes were just what it needed.

Not to mention a little kick in the butt to get things rolling again in this room. Here’s a taste of what we’re working with. Warning: in desperate need of wall art, accessories, and pretty much everything else other than furniture.

Oh, we do have a rug :) Ha.

And I’ll go ahead and apologize for the lack of details here. Although, I’m sure you guys don’t mind a little eye candy without all the blabber. Am I right?
